Hanging your art

HANGING < 10 LBS ON DRYWALL

If hanging your wall art/sign on a drywall wall, start by considering the weight of your wall art/sign. If it weighs less than 10 lbs, you do not need to hit a stud or use a wall anchor. Simply just drive a screw into the wall. For additional strength, drive the screw into the wall at angle, like shown.

HANGING > 10 LBS ON DRYWALL

If your wall art/sign weighs more than 10 lbs, it is always wise to hit a stud where you can, but we realize studs do not always fall where you want them to. In this case, you will need to use a wall anchor. Over the years, we have tried numerous wall anchors, but we have become very fond of a few styles that continue to work very well for us that cover the spectrum of 1-110 lbs. After considering the weight of your wall art/sign, choose one of our recommended wall anchors below that is rated for a weight heavier than your wall art/sign.

HANGING ON MASONRY & Concrete

Masonry (brick, cinder block, etc.) and concrete walls behave differently than drywall. Masonry and concrete are both stronger compared to drywall, however, you can not simply drive a typical wood/drywall screw into masonry or concrete because the screw will either not go in, the local area of the wall will crumble, or both. Instead, when hanging on masonry or concrete, you will need to use a masonry/concrete screw. You will also need to drill a pilot hole using a masonry/concrete drill bit. (Often times, this special masonry/concrete drill bit will come in the pack along with the screws.) Once you have drilled a pilot hole using the masonry/concrete drill bit, you can then drive a screw into the hole. We recommend you use Tapcon (see below), the most popular brand for this type of product and can be found at almost any hardware store.
